Description

Announcing the 2007 Free Speech and Democracy Youth Film Contest!

“How Does Censorship Affect Me?”

Film your response in 4 min. or less and win up to $1000 and a trip to NYC for a gala awards ceremony! To enter, you must be a U.S. Citizen and 19 years old or younger by the date you submit your film. All films must be made in 2007 and be postmarked August 13th, 2007. Films can be submitted on DVD or VHS and should address the question “How Does Censorship Affect Me?”

YFEN is a coalition of teens and adults committed to defending the free expression rights of youth. The YFEN Speaker’s Bureau is a network of youth speakers from around the country who participate in panels at national conferences and run free expression workshops in their local communities. By voicing the youth perspective, Speakers aim to educate the public that censorial measures enacted in the presumed interest of “protecting” youth often not only prevent minors from learning, thinking and exploring; they deprive them of critical information on subjects ranging from human rights and feminism to drugs and safer sex.
