Scholarship Description
Each January, the Humane Education Network holds its annual A Voice
for Animals high school essay contest.
Prizes are awarded to high school students whose essays best promote
the humane treatment of animals in the United States:
$1000 1st Prize
$500 2nd Prize
$100 3rd Prize
$750 Best personal and active involvement in a project or venture that
directly impacts animal welfare
The contest is co-sponsored in part this year by the Palo Alto Humane
Society.
Eligibility:
The contest is open to all high school students. Students must submit
an essay that:
* examines either the mistreatment of one animal species or one cause
of animal suffering, occurring anywhere in the world, and possible
measures to reduce it;
* cites all sources;
* is the original work of the author and not previously published;
* is typed double-spaced;
* must not exceed 1500 words (longer essays will be disqualified).
Prizes are awarded for original thought, research and in-depth
analysis in addressing the issues. Judges’ decisions are final.
