The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Founders'
Scholarship is available to IBEW members who have been in continuous
good standing and have paid dues without an honorary withdrawal for four
years prior to May 1 of the scholarship year. Charter members of a local
IBEW union may also apply. You must be recommended in writing by your
local union business manager and supply two additional letters of
recommendation testifying to your attributes in order to qualify for
this award. The award also requires that you submit copies of all
academic transcripts from high school, college, apprenticeship or any
other educational or developmental program as well as your test scores
from the SAT I or the ACT. In addition, you must send a complete
personal resume outlining education, work history, military service and
community involvement. Finally, a 250-500 word essay entitled, "How the
Founders' Scholarship Will Benefit the Brotherhood and the Electrical
Industry," is required. This award is for $200 per credit hour at any
accredited college or university towards an initial Bachelor degree. The
maximum disbursement is $24,000 over a period not to exceed eight years.
