Description
Eligibility:
Any student enrolled in or majoring in recreation, parks and leisure
studies at an accredited university, college or community college is
eligible. Students must have a faculty sponsor (from an accredited
school) to submit a paper for the Robert W. Crawford Student Literary
Award.
Topic:
Open to all topics relating to parks, recreation, and leisure.
However, AALR encourages entries addressing recreation for youth,
families or healthy lifestyles.
Recognition:
The Robert W. Crawford Student Literary Award encourages and
recognizes writing excellence on the part of both undergraduate and
graduate students enrolled or majoring in recreation, parks and
leisure studies. Students submit a paper for review. Selected papers
are recognized nationally by the American Association for Leisure and
Recreation (AALR). One $500 scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate
student and one $500 scholarship is awarded to a graduate student. The
award recipients are eligible for a travel stipend (up to $500 total)
to attend the AAHPERD National Convention and Exposition held in the
spring to receive their award. They will also receive a one-year
student membership in AALR.
Awards for manuscripts submitted in April will be presented during the
J.B. Nash Breakfast at the AAHPERD National Convention and Exposition
the following Spring. All students submitting manuscripts are invited
to attend the J.B. Nash Breakfast. All award winners receive
complimentary tickets to the breakfast.
