Description:
The Scholastic Writing Awards honor students currently enrolled in
grades 7-12, recognizing about 50,000 regional winners. Nationally,
400 young writers' individual works receive Gold and Silver awards in
each of 11 categories. Writing Categories are: dramatic script, humor,
journalism, personal essay/memoir, poetry, science fiction/fantasy,
short story, short short story and novel writing.
Graduating high school seniors seeking scholarships must submit a body
of three to eight works of general writing or nonfiction writing for
Portfolio Awards to their regional office of The Awards. To determine

In June, national award recipients are honored at a ceremony at
Carnegie Hall in New York. National awards recipients are considered
for The Best Teen Writing and other publications, and 5 Portfolio Gold
Award recipients receive $10,000 scholarships.
