The United States Foreign Service National High School Essay Contest is
open to all students in grades nine through twelve who are attending
public, private or parochial schools, home schooled or participating in a
high school correspondence program in any of the fifty states, the
District of Columbia, or the U.S. territories or as U.S. citizens
attending schools overseas. Non-U.S. citizens enrolled in U.S. high
schools are also eligible to apply. If your parents are members of the
United States Foreign Service or are on the Steering and Advisory
Committee for the contest, you are NOT eligible. In order to apply, you
must submit a 750- to 1,000-word research paper analyzing and explaining
how the members of the Foreign Service promote United States national
interests by participating in the resolution of today's major
international problems. The first-place winner will receive a $2,500 check
as well as a $500 check for their school or sponsor.
