Scholarship Description
The scholarship was established in memory of Mrs. Virginia D. Henry
by her husband, Jay Henry, P.E. and the NSPE Auxiliary. Virginia
Henry's leadership was instrumental in the development of the NSPE
Auxiliary from a social group to a working, supportive independent
organization. Active in the national, state and local levels of the
Auxiliary, Mrs. Henry promoted and participated in many philanthropic
activities for the development of the engineering profession. She
served as chairperson of the NSPE Auxiliary, national board member of
the YWCA, and active in the Human Rights Commission of Wheeling, West
Virginia, The United Church Women, and the West Virginia
Federation of Women's Clubs. The recipient may attend a college or
university of her choice, providing that the engineering curriculum
selected is ABET accredited. It is awarded strictly on the basis of
scholarship and achievement.
To be eligible for the NSPE Educational Foundation/Virginia Henry
Memorial Scholarship, the applicant must be a female student at a
community/junior college accepted for transfer into an
ABET-accredited, four-year engineering program.
